Direct answer

What is indexed universal life insurance?

Indexed universal life is permanent insurance with flexible premiums and cash value that may receive interest credits tied to an index formula. The policy is not invested directly in the market. Caps, participation rates, spreads, charges, funding, and loan activity all affect results.

Then compare.

These answers are educational. Policy availability, underwriting, contract language, licensing, and individual circumstances determine what applies.

01

Does a zero-percent floor mean the policy cannot lose value?

No. A floor may limit a negative index credit, but policy charges still apply and can reduce value. The guarantees and current assumptions should be reviewed separately.

02

Are illustrated values guaranteed?

No. Illustrations contain guaranteed and non-guaranteed values. Actual results depend on crediting terms, charges, funding, withdrawals, loans, and carrier performance.

03

Can I access cash value without tax?

Withdrawals up to basis and policy loans may receive favorable tax treatment when a properly structured non-MEC policy remains in force. A lapse or surrender with gain can create taxes, so qualified tax guidance matters.

04

Who should consider an IUL?

It may fit someone with a permanent insurance need, stable long-term cash flow, and the willingness to review performance. It is not a short-term savings account or a substitute for understanding the contract.
